What Does It Take To Become A Dentist?

A dentist, also referred to as a dental specialist, is a qualified medical professional who specifically specializes in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of oral diseases and conditions. The main duties of a dentist include conducting routine dental procedures, repairing decayed or damaged teeth, and restoring the structure of tooth enamel. Other important duties of a dentist include educating patients about proper dental hygiene and dental health, offering preventive care, and responding to emergency dental cases. Dentists can be general practitioners, family dentists, sedatives dentists, cosmetic dentists, orthodontists, orthopedic surgeons, pediatric dentists, pediatricians, cosmetic surgeons, pediatric specialists. Dentist Hoppers Crossing offers excellent info on this. Many dentists work in private practices but there are many who work through community-based dentistry organizations.

To become a dentist, you must first complete an accredited associate’s degree program, which usually takes two years. In addition, you need to undergo a four-year undergraduate degree, which is also typically completed through an accredited college or university. To be eligible for dental school, you need to meet minimum criteria such as having a high school diploma or GED, having completed high school courses in math and science, have a passing score on standardized testing, and have passed the Medical College Admission Test (Macular Intelligence Test) – MAST. You also need to have a specialties course completed from an accredited school.

Dentists can obtain their license by completing either a two-year residency in orthodontics or a one-year residency in a specific dental specialty. Dentists who have completed a dental specialty residency program are allowed to take the MCAT, but they are not permitted to apply for a visa to the US while their residency is still in effect. A dentist who is eligible for a US visa upon completion of their residency will then be able to apply for a dentist visa after completing the remaining required residency requirements. After receiving a dentist visa, you can then register in a dental college which provides a two-year program in a dental specialty.
